Adding your own music

HeatXR builds a workout around any song you put on your headset. Supported formats: MP3, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG, Opus and WAV. Streaming services aren't supported.

  1. Put songs on the headset. Connect the headset to a computer with a USB cable, put the headset on and allow access to your files when asked. It then shows up on the computer like a drive: copy your songs into its Music folder (or any folder you like). You can also download songs with the headset's browser; they land in Download.
  2. Add the folder in HeatXR. On the home menu choose Music › My library, then + Add folder and Continue. Your headset's folder picker opens: choose the folder with your songs.
  3. That's it. Every song in the folder and its subfolders appears in your library. Each new song is analysed once (a few seconds each). Songs you add to the folder later appear the next time you open the library.

HeatXR only reads the folders you pick. Your songs are never copied, changed or uploaded.

Song questions

  • A song says "Unsteady beat". HeatXR places targets on the beat, so it needs a steady tempo. Songs with a changing tempo or no clear beat (some live recordings, ambient or classical pieces) are left out when your songs are shuffled.
  • A song doesn't appear. Check that it's in the folder you added (or a folder inside it) and in one of the formats above. If it still doesn't show, the file may be damaged: try converting it to MP3 or M4A.
  • Long mixes (over 10 minutes) work too: each round plays a part of the mix.

No music? No problem

Beat-only workouts play without any songs: the targets follow a steady beat and the coach counts you in.

Play safely

  • Clear a space at least an arm's reach around you in every direction, and set up your headset's boundary.
  • Wear the controller wrist straps.
  • Warm up first, drink water, and stop if you feel dizzy, unwell or in pain.
  • Calories are estimates. Check with a doctor before starting a new exercise programme.

Your data

HeatXR has no account and needs no internet connection. Your settings, workout history and saved workouts stay on your headset; uninstalling the app deletes them. See the privacy policy.
